Shelby Waxer
Shelby Waxer’s journey into dog psychology began in her childhood, growing up in a household always bustling with at least six dogs. Her experience with a childhood dog that developed severe behavioral issues set her on a lifelong mission to explore the inner workings of canine minds. Starting her professional career with dogs at just 15, Shelby advanced her skills and knowledge at the Atlanta Dog Trainer Academy for Professional, where she became a certified behavioral and training specialist. She was even selected to intern with Susie Aga, the academy’s esteemed owner and lead director.
Now, Shelby is an integral part of the Atlanta Dog Trainer’s canine behavioral assessment teams, specializing in a variety of roles. She instructs group classes, conducts in-home sessions, and leads behavioral assessments, scent detection, swimming lessons, and board-and-train programs. Her expertise is particularly pronounced in working with dogs that have endured trauma or neglect, especially during critical learning stages. Her unique ability to connect with these dogs has made her a pivotal figure in their rehabilitation.
Since joining the Atlanta Dog Trainer family four years ago, Shelby has played a crucial role in helping families bond with their dogs and discover new ways to communicate. At home, Shelby’s love for dogs continues with her own pets, a hound mix named Blaze and a Jack Russell named Bobby Boucher. Passionate about canine welfare, Shelby looks forward to rescuing and rehabilitating many more dogs in the future.
